The year 7 and 8 boys and girls have been taking part in some fantastic rugby coaching sessions by the North Walsham RFC coaches. This is providing an excellent opportunity for the students to develop their skills whilst being coached in preparation for a seven-school tournament in October.
In July, the PE department inspired 8 students through a trip to Wimbledon. The students had a thoroughly enjoyable day on Court Number 1 watching Women’s and Mixed Doubles matches, including Jamie Murray and Victoria Azarenka. In addition to this, the students were able to watch Acle’s former student Alfie Hewitt in his Wheelchair Doubles semi-final win.
Well done to our year 7 and 8 cricket team who competed to a good level in the recent Norfolk Cricket tournament.
Congratulations to Hannah Mann who recently represented Norfolk in tennis. Hannah continues to represented the school at a high standard in all sports and we are very proud of her in the PE department. Congratulations to Jake Rix who competed at national level Judo for the first time representing the Eastern region . He won two fights which is a fantastic achievement for a first experience. Well done Jake!
The U13 boys tennis team recently travelled to Cliff Park for a league fixture and returned home with a convincing win. All the boys won their singles matches whilst Edward and Owen won their doubles match. This was a fantastic effort from the boys!
Congratulations to our Year 10 Rounders Team who recently won the Great Yarmouth District Tournament. The team won two of the three matches and ended up winning on rounders scored. Player of the tournament was Elise D for her fantastic batting.
Well done to our year 8 rounders team who competed in their first tournament last week. The girls played really well and were a credit to the academy.
For activities day, the PE department took 15 students to Lord’s for a fantastic T20 Blast match between Somerset and Middlesex. This provided an inspirational experience for our students to watch elite-level cricket with extremely fast bowling and big-hitting in bat!
In September, 15 students were lucky enough to be selected for a trip to Wembley Stadium to watch England v Spain. In a packed stadium, students were inspired by an entertaining game whereby they were able to see world-class footballers in action. Thank you to Mr Newstead and Mr Fulcher for running this amazing trip.
U15 Great Yarmouth Schools Finals Report
It was a very young team which set out on Tuesday 10th July to represent the school against teams from Flegg and Broadland in a 2 round tournament involving a semi-final and final. The team left early to get some extra practice in before the tournament in the afternoon and a promising nets session showed the ability of the young team. After a quick stop at McDonald’s the team arrived at Southtown Common just in time to witness the destruction of Flegg B-team by Broadland who won by over 180 runs. The final, though a long way off yet, was going to be tough work. First, we had to beat the Flegg A-team.
Our captain, Jack P, won the toss and elected to bat first. With a county standard player opening the batting, all looked good. That was until Sam U got caught first ball. This was then the start of something quite impressive as Ben G hit a spectacular 103 from 20 overs, including fifteen fours and one six. The rest of the team chipped in as Jack hit 18, Finn A hit 3, Dylan S got 2, Seth F got 4 and Joe C. With 42 extras, the team finished on a very respectable 172 runs. After a short break, the team went out to field in high spirits. The guys showed their class in bowling as Finn and Archie each took a wicket. Ben took a further two and Flegg were out of overs on 104 runs. Honourable mentions go to Edward H and Owen S who bowled extremely well against opposition much older than them. Acle beat Flegg 172-104 runs.
The final was to be against Broadland who had edged a victory against us a few weeks before in a friendly. Jack won the toss once more and this time elected to field first. The bowling was opened against Broadland’s ex-England player by Ben and despite the efforts of three of our best bowlers (Jack, Ben and Joe) they were at 50 from 4 overs with the game looking as if it was only going one way. An over later and Ben had clean bowled the opener. From that point on, the run rate was kept to less than 6 per over and the wickets kept coming. A further 8 wickets fell as Jack lead by example taking three, Sam took two, as did Finn, finally, Joe took one more to complete a respectable bowling innings to hold Broadland to 142 runs. When it came to batting, we were all expecting another stunner from Ben. This, however, sadly never came and the team were held back to just 70 runs from 20 overs. The most impressive sole input came from Sam who hit 17. Mention also must go to Finn who, despite being forced to retire after taking a powerful ball to the toe, came back on when the team needed him.
The game finished 142-70 runs and afterwards the awards ceremony concluded with trophies for all (and lots of food). Runners up after defeating Flegg comfortably is an excellent achievement for our young team who played admirably throughout.
Many thanks to those who ran the day.
Full team list in planned order for batting: Jack P, Sam U, Ben G, Finn A, Dylan S, Seth F, Archie L, Joe C, Bob A, Edward H and Owen S.

The year 9 football team finished their season with the District Cup Final at The Wellesley in Great Yarmouth. Unfortunately they lost to a very strong Lynn Grove side. To back this up the team also finished runners-up in the District League. Finishing league and cup runners-up is a fantastic achievement and the PE Department are very proud of the boys.
Congratulations to our year 7 netball team who finished runners up in the final netball tournament of the year. They have all had a fantastic first season as an Acle netballer.
Well done to our year 8 and 9 girls netball squads who competed for the first time in the Great Yarmouth District League. Both teams represented the academy fantastically well and showed great determination to improve throughout.
Congratulations to our year 7 football squad who completed their first year on competition. The team finished the season with a fantastic win over Lynn Grove.
