The internet is a wonderful place that opens up all sorts of exciting opportunities for its users. It would be difficult to imagine what life would be like if it were suddenly turned off! Unfortunately, not everyone on the Net is who they might seem and there may be times when you see or receive hurtful things or things that make you feel uncomfortable.
If you've clicked the red button because you are uncomfortable now then you can contact CEOP straight away. CEOP stands for Child Exploitation and Online Protection. This is their logo and you can get immediate help and advice by clicking it. You can also click the button if you are a student or parent seeking further advice - there are lots of simple ways to keep safe.
Of course, you probably use the internet in and out of school… on a computer or, perhaps, on your phone. It doesn't matter where and how you use it - if you feel uncomfortable online then report it.
If you would like to find out more about how to keep safe online and make the most of the internet then CEOP has an excellent linked site with lots of helpful advice for parents and students of all ages. Click the pic to visit.
Of course, the ever-increasing power and sophistication of the mobile phone network provides even more ways to access the internet. The individual companies have their own guidance pages. Here's one, written for parents, that we like, so click the link to read what they have to say about helping your child stay safe online.
The school spends a lot of time trying to repair damaged relationships caused by inappropriate use of social media. The guidance letter for parents is here.
